ELGO-DEMETER, in the context of its research and technological activities, participates energetically in the productive activity of the primary sector of seed production by creating new varieties.

By creating, preserving, producing seeds, and providing the market with varieties of cereals, forage crops, legumes, cotton, tobacco and horticultural species, contributes in:

  • The creation of new, highly productive and with optimum quality characteristics varieties, adjusted to Greek conditions.
  • The preservation of genetic purity and identity of existing varieties of plants extensive cultivations) and horticulture species.
  • The self-powered production, the standardization, the certification and disposal of high quality seeds.
  • Τhe utilization of the valuable genetic material, which is provided by the research units.

A great number of ELGO-DEMETER varieties, which are seed-produced in the respective Research Institutes, are nowadays being διακινούνται by the cooperating private and συνεταιριστικούς entities.
